Gingerbread Man {A Tutorial}

Here is a fun craft that you can do to hang on a tree or decorate a package with....really the possibilites are endless, let's get started!

If you would like to create the felt poinsettias that you see here on the wreath, check out the tutorial HERE!

If you are feeling crafty, here is what you'll need:
Wooden Gingerbread Men
(Which I will abbreviate GM, because I'm too lazy to spell it out anymore)
Craft Paint in Golden Brown, light pink and Burnt Umber
Fabric 'Slick' Writers in black and white
Sparkle Mod Podge
Buttons/beads
New pencil (with non-used eraser)
Paint brushes
Clothes pin (and hot glue gun to glue it on)

You can find GM in the unfinished wood area of any craft store, but I like the shape of the one from Hobby Lobby the best. They come in a pack of three for around a dollar.

You'll begin by giving the GM about three coats of golden brown paint and let dry. You'll want to do both sides and the edges too, so it looks nice and neat.

Next, you want to give the GM a 'cookie' look with a gnarly brush and burnt umber paint....just around the edges.

Once it's dry, use the unused eraser end of a pencil and dip into light pink paint and give that GM some rosy cheeks. That wasn't a run-on sentence was it?

Let dry.

Slick writers I get at Wal-mart. They have them over where you get stuff to make your own t-shirt area. It's for fabric, but it works fine with this too and dries with a raised surface, which is great for a 'frosting' look.
With the white slick writer, give him some frosting and use the black for his eyes and mouth. You have to kinda have a steady hand, but the tubes are pretty easy to use. Of course you can personalize the face however you'd like too...I like mine a little cock-eyed. :)
Let everything dry and glue on some buttons or beads.

Glue the clothes pin on the back. This makes it super easy to clip any where...stockings, trees, gifts, etc.

Finally, completely cover the GM with sparkle Mod Podge. It seals it and gives it the twinkle effect you know I love!

Once it is dry, he is ready to clip anywhere and everywhere. I've been making these for years and even do them made out of burlap. I think they are so cute!

They look cute pinched on a wreath too! I hope you are inspired to give this a try! If you don't like the whimsy look, I think it would look cute with a prim look too.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Candy Kitchen

If you have one or several of these running around, I know you just can't help having a fun and whimsical Christmas dedicated just for the kids (even the one in you). So with my helper in tow, we created a little whimsy in the kitchen/eating area.

Candy canes and lollipops, gingerbread men and ladies, deck out the painted white shelf hanging on the wall in the kitchen.

Isn't she so cute with her green bow and ruffly dress?

I put a tree next to the china hutch, full of candy and gingerbread ornaments.

Have you seen this type of paper garland at Pottery Barn and other places? I made my own, punched circles out of reversible scrapbooking paper and sewed them together. I decided to hang it on the tree.

Last year after Christmas, I picked up a Christmas dinnerware set (like I need one more set of dishes) from Martha Stewart. It has a beautiful holly pattern and I blended it in the hutch with my everyday Gibson. I've done a tablescape with these so look for that tomorrow. I've been collecting "candy" for years and I displayed them in glass apothecary jars, it looks real and certainly last longer! :)

Some favorite ornaments

Gingerbread man, I just love this pair!

The advent calendar hangs in the kitchen too. Justin's Grandmother made it, circa 1985.

I hung vintage stockings with suction cups on the glass of the hutch, I added cedar and made the little felt poinsettias. I put a clothes pins on the back so they can go anywhere. I used a bottle cap for the center!
I just love felt!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you are inspired!

Cloche Party

Welcome!

Hello everyone! Thanks for dropping by, I am really in the holiday spirit and I have been decorating up a storm! After a lot of decorating it seems like I have a lot of cleaning to do too.....what's that about? Here in the Kitchen I have gotten the Candy Land Tree done and have started the detail stuff now. You might remember this cloche that I used for my Halloween display

Now I have it with a silver tree candle

I like doing the trees and then decorating...Marty's Cloche Party is the perfect time to show you some {I mean} all three of my cloches!

I love my cloche base that I made last summer and I have gotten a lot of use out of it.
I use it now to display one of my favorite vintage Santa guys

I love this guy and I don't know if it's just me or not, but I can't find decent looking Christmas figures out there....it seems like they are trying to see how cheap they can make stuff-and it's really showing. I have had this guy for many years.

My dear MIL bought this vintage looking tree for me-love it! I have more going on in the kitchen {probably too much} but let's go ahead and move in to the living room.

I have kept the color in here to a minimum, but I like that right now with so much color in the kitchen, the living area is plain and simple.

Plain and simple doesn't mean I skimp on the details.
It can't be any easier than this: Snow, snowflake, and a few ornaments!

I love my milk glass collection and I use several pieces for everything, especially this little vase, which I have multiples of

I love green and brown together and throwing in silver for the holidays, well friends, it makes me: happy! Putting ornaments in apothecary jars is simple and beautiful! I used a collection of glass and glitterey ornaments. This would be a great way to display odd ornaments

Dressing up candles, you've seen these before, with holiday ribbon, and they are feeling festive too!

I recently got this silver tray at my favorite thrift store and I really love it! It cleaned up purdy! Chalk that one up to Thrifty Love!

Well I can't seem to do anything with out having pinecones! So here they are! Nestled all together in a not so big cloche and a milk glass base-to me, this is perfection

Thank you Marty for hosting this great party! Be sure to visit all the clocheness at A Stroll Thru Life!
