New Displays @ The Booth

Did your weekend go well? The sun is finally shining here in southwest Missouri, and that always makes for a good weekend. I was working at my booth space, filling in with goodies and I finally remembered to bring my camera.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner so I did a little display for the ever popular occasion.

I included my collage hearts that I originally made for Etsy, but decided to take them offline and see how they would do at the booth. I'm still not sure how handmade does in my area, it's kind of hit or miss. I think that most people {in my area} are of the mindset that if it's handmade it's low in quality, but I know how much time and effort I put into each piece I make, and it's far from second rate. Anyway, I like mixing handmade with my vintage things, so we'll see how it goes.

I moved some of the furniture around (that I could by myself) and moved my green and white dresser into a new spot. I still love this piece and it's waiting for a special person. Don't you like that brass lamp? I have a pair of them, they almost didn't make it to the booth! :) I found hem shade-less and put a cream shade on them, but I might change them to black shades, that would look even better.

I've got a little bit of spring and more coming soon too.

You probably remember the blue dresser that sold last month and I replaced it with this BEAUTIFUL walnut buffet. Of course I miss that blue up against the trellis wall, but I think it's working ok, though I need some color up there now!

My music sheet wreath is still hanging, either no one 'gets' it or I've got it priced too high.

I'll be improving and rearranging even more and I'll be sure to share it with you.

P.S. If you see any of the littles you might like, don't hesitate to holler at me, I don't mind shipping.

Where is the Love?

Can I make a confession?

Valentine's Day is a rip off. Ouch. There, I said it, do you hate me?

What's wrong with me. Every girl loves receiving chocolates and flowers and extravagant dinners for Valentine's Day, right?

I think it's a waste of money. If flower's are going to be bought, buy me some bulbs I can plant in the garden. Chocolate is great, but I don't like the heart shaped box thingies that you have to read the diagram to figure out what flavor you're about to bite into. Besides, I'm very picky about my chocolate (and ice cream) so it's best to stick with what I like.

Oh, the brutality. I did try to get into the Valentine's Day mind set, but I just couldn't do it. I had a tablescape in mind, and I'm just not going to do it. I had some crafts I wanted to make, but I just didn't want to.

The only thing that I have actually crafted and not necessarily for Valentine's Day, maybe more for Spring. Crepe Paper Peonies.

I was perusing through my Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts and stumbled across Crepe Paper Flowers, page 248. I did the peony in a fuchsia crepe paper and found it to be a little addictive and super easy to make.

I painted some glass bottles (Strawberry Crush Bottles) in fun spring colors and called it a day. That's my contribution to V-day this year. Was this too real? :)
Maybe I'm just grumpy and tired of the snow.

Do you love Valentine's Day or are you done with it?

Heart Day Tablescape

Hello friends! It's been a while since I've played with my dishes, I've been in the painting, rearranging, crafting mode but Valentine's Day is a wonderful holiday to create a tablescape for! Red and white are on deck, one of my favorite color combos!

Thanks to Susan for hosting and be sure visit the Porch for some inspiration for Valentine's Day!

I found some super cute plates at TJ Maxx and it really inspired the whole table. I only found two, but used two red plates I already had to mix with.

The white dinner plates are from the Dollar Tree, I think they are really fun with the handles....lots of potential! I think you'll remember my Carnation Rondure, see how I made it here.

I used my handmade heart ornaments for the placesetting and wouldn't they make a cute hostess gift?

Now you might have noticed my table linens, actually, I used gift wrap and just cut it to size! I love hounds tooth and it looks great in red!

Plain white naps and white napkin rings let my little hearts lead the place setting. I used little red tea cups that you might you might remember from my Hounds tooth Holiday.

Creating mosaic is an easy way to use a lot of pictures without having a super long post. Create your own at Big Huge Labs.

A more stylized centerpiece, Tall candle holders on milk glass plates, bottles with red tulips, taper candles and votives, simple but very festive!

My herringbone placemats are usually for Christmas, I always try to buy things {like placemats} I can use for more than one occasion.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you're inspired!

Specimen Board

Ok, don't leave...Specimen Board may or may not conjure up a good mental image, but this is a cute specimen board!

I'm telling you, this is the last Valentine's Day project I'm doing. I mean really. Technically, I was using up scraps from making my heart ornaments for my Etsy Shop, when I came up with this idea.

Here's what you need:

Glassless {is that a word?} frame, I like black, but it could be any color or size..

Burlap

Cardboard or foam board, I used a pizza box

Fabric stiffener

Shipping Tags

Standard 3'' ABC stencils

Scrapbooking paper (of your choice)
Straight Pins

This is one of those projects using everything I had on hand

Cut the cardboard to fit inside the frame. Make sure it's pretty snug. I used an exacto knife and ruler, or if you actually have the glass {I didn't} use that as a template.

Next, cut the burlap the exact same size as the cardboard. Use the fabric stiffener to adhere it to the cardboard

If you have Mod Podge or even elmer's glue, that will do the trick too.

Be careful to pull on the burlap enough that it's pretty straight...you don't want it running down hill...

Using Shipping Tags, stencils, and scrap paper I created "Love". Depending on the size of your frame, you could spell out whatever!

Need more information?

Ok,

use the stencils to trace out your letters on the front of the shipping tags

hand-cut them out with the exacto knife (be careful!)

mod podge the scrap paper to the back of the tag, trim off any excess paper.

If you want to know how to stain your shipping tags check out this post.

Along with the shipping tags, I pinned on a heart and the word Sweet.

You can use anything you have on hand. I think this would be really fun to do seasonally or for everyday things! Ribbon would be cute instead of the string too.

Thanks for stopping by!

I hope you're inspired to try a specimen board!

Valentine Tabletop

I've had Valentine's Day on the brain and while I have been creating heart ornaments for my Etsy Shop, I put together a {very} simple vignette for Valentine's Day. This is all created with things I had on hand.

A Dollar store frame that I painted white {it was gold} and printed "Love" on a vintage book page...super simple.

A little wooden heart that I made, it is a little different than the ones I made for my Etsy Shop, but this one is staying with me!

A goodwill frame that I found this last summer and simply framed scrapbooking paper {it can't get any easier than that}. Behind that is my photograph of winterberries that I enlarged and printed here at home and framed in an inexpensive frame.

Aluminium letters and vintage printer's block's...you guessed it: L-O-V-E!

I love using Apothacary jars with everything, here I used crinkle paper and a glitter heart.

Just keeping it real here....this is what the letters usually look like. Logan plays with them a lot!
