Ribbon Pillow

Just when you thought I couldn't get one more pillow on my sofa...I went and made another one. Just for the record, I am not a seamstress, but simple, elementary projects: I'm OK...just don't ask me to whip out a dress or anything.
If you read my post about embellishing store bought curtains with ribbon, then you know I have discovered the genius of Heat n Bond....which inspired this whole project...I want to see what all I can bond together!
I found this beauteous fabric at Walmart in the 1.00/yd bin, not only was it a beautiful shade of turquoise, but it has the most beautiful shade of cobalt blue on the reverse, that I just fell in love with!

Because I can't sew, yet have some sort of fabric fetish, I bought some and decided to first make a pillow, then maybe with the remaining yardage perhaps squeak out a tablecloth. Unless I can get my dear MIL to sew for me. Elaine are you out there?
I wanted a lumbar type pillow and cut a rough shape out. I planned to have the cobalt on the back, but wanted to have a smidgen on the front too, I cut about about 4" off one side
and flipped it over

I sewed it up and ironed the seam flat

Using Heat n Bond and the same ribbon I used on the curtains, I adhered two strips of the plain ribbon side by side and a second ribbon from my stash, on top, right over the seam. I love the little white stitching on it.

I sewed the pillow up and turned it right side out. It looked pretty good...so far

I stuffed it with poly-fil and hand sewed the opening. I've never sewn ribbon before, but it was really easy and looked nice and tidy.
You might notice in this picture that I forgot to flip the fabric over to have the solid cobalt on the back before I sewed the pillow, oh well...

That will just give me an excuse to make another pillow!!! :)

Loverly!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you're inspired!!!

Ribbon Detail On Plain Jane Curtain Panels

Thank you for commenting on my living room this weekend. You make blogging so much fun! Wanna see what kind of trouble we can get into now?
Adding ribbon detail to store bought panels
Seems simple enough...or so I thought...

You can add some detail and personality to plain store bought curtains in very little time and little money...music to your ears right?
I found some great linen-like 96'' panels at Big Lots for 7.oo, holy moly cheap! Gauzy like fabric, lending a easy breezy feel to the living room, but I wanted to add some detail.
Ribbon seemed like the perfect method of jazzing up some plain Jane curtains. I whipped out my fabric glue, cut the ribbon to size, glued that ribbon down...and this is what I got:
Bad, bad, before: That's not wet...it's dry...overnight even...like overnight was going to help, I kept thinking that my faux pas would "clear up" magically during the night...nope it didn't...
Learn from my mistake; test the glue first!!!
If you are wondering if I did the entire 96'' panel, on both sides, yes. yes, I did. geez.
I was so happy too, shuffling off to bed, glancing back at the panel, already hanging proudly on it's rod... it said it would dry clear....I couldn't wait to see it the next morning...lesson learned. This lesson is right up there with learning to prime metal first. Just do it! Just test it!

After kicking myself for not doing the test spot first, I resorted to using another method of adhesion, Heat n bond. It became clear, and very quickly so, this was going to be my new best friend. Heat n Bond, meet Krylon Spray Paint, we are all going to be BFF's!
It was so easy to use! I barely followed the directions and it still worked!!!

I used the 3/4'' hem variety, and I was ironing merrily along...worked like a dream! Now only if it would salvage the awful mess I made with the fabric glue...I thought that I would just go over the top of the stained ribbon, but after pulling on it enough, discovered that it would rip right off, I was left with a messy glue trail, but it worked!

The Heat n Bond cover my I-didn't-do-the-test-spot-first sin!
So there you have it, I didn't ruin a curtain panel, learned of the magic of Heat n bond, and added a lot of zip to an otherwise plain curtain...

They turned out great! It's a subtle detail, but I really love it! It also got me to do the dreaded ironing of the panels too...

No measuring, I just eye-balled it...

Added a strip across the bottom too, I'm telling you, that heat n bond stuff is great!

It's so hard to photograph sunny windows!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you're going to do a test spot inspired!
Later this week, I'm going to show you the beauty of spray painting your stuff! Nobody told me spray painting was additive!

Parade of Homes:Living Room

UndertheTableandDreaming

Hello! Thank you for stopping by!

What an awesome and inspiring Parade of homes I've been browsing through this week! There is so much talent in this community!

I'm throwing in my two cents, sharing our living room, it's where my family spends most of our time. It's constantly changing and evolving...but I'm really happy with it right now, I hope you enjoy!

You'll see a lot of influnce of the sea around my home, it's where I long to be...

I'm in love with the color turquoise, I love to use it throughout the living room and kitchen

Spray paint is a close personal friend of mine, and a lot of furniture and accessories that I use have a coat or two of it on....this side table received a fresh coat of glossy white just last week (formerly black, grey before that)

The coffee table
I love having a round table, this grouping stays pretty much centered, and Logan is able to have his cars all around...the 'race track' is always open!
The sofa: the pillows never actaully stay like this, but being the only girl in the house...I gotta have my pillows!

This dresser has become one of my favorite pieces of furniture, it offers a lot of storage and acts as an end table
peek-a-boo!

I hope you have enjoyed our Living Room tour, I hope to share some more projects on how I created some of the details next week, I hope you join me!
Again, thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you're inspired! Thank you Poppies at Play for hosting!
