A Christmas Poem: My Eight Foot Tree

Twas the height of yard sale season and all through the hoods, I search high and low for dazzling vintage goods. Typically, the children are still nestled, all snug in their beds while I have visions of furniture and accessories dancing in my head. Off I go with a roll of thunder, yard sales and garage sales to plunder!

When out on the lawn of a house nice and neat, I encounter a big tub and an eight foot tree! Away to the women I flew like a flash..."How much is the tree, I'll give you cash!"

A dollar she exclaimed, but I couldn't believe, what could be wrong with that eight foot tree? "Nothing" she answered, "and all the pieces are there..." I welcomed her answer, if I dare!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, I jumped in the car and waved bye, bye! Fast forward to now and gaze upon the tree. It's eight foot tall as you can see. What the fair lady failed to mention was that eight foot tree girth dimensions!

I spoke not a word, but went right to work and decorated the tree, I was going berserk! It's too big and dowdy, I thought with a pout, my head was swimming with all sorts of doubt!

I persevered and kept right on going. With ribbon and bells and pine cones and more, I decked out that tree, it finally started flowing!

Finally, I finished and I am happy you see, I'm tickled pink and glad I bought my eight foot tree.

So here we are at the end of my story, my eight foot tree in all her glory.

This poem inspired by Twas the night before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore with a little Dr. Suess thrown in for good measure. :)

  10. Great tree, Michelle! You did a beautiful job decorating it even though you weren't anticipating this "fullness". : ) Mine is somewhat full as well and 7 1/2 feet. I really need more ornaments on mine, but unless I find plastic, the bottom will remain ornamentless. The little granddaughter is too fascinated by them!

  11. Such a cute post and your tree is beautiful! I was once seduced into buying a 9-foot tree (long and skinny--the total opposite of me!) at a Hobby Lobby after-Christmas sale. My husband was so mad at me! It fit in our room just fine, but decorating it was not much fun. Enjoy the holidays!

  12. Thank you all so much!
Rekkehuset, yes, traditionally, I put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving. I know some people like to put it up a week or so before Christmas and take it down in the new year, but I like to have it done and really enjoy the season. Plus, I needed to see just what this new-to-me tree could do, so I was a little excited! :)

  13. Michelle, you have inspired me to buy some ribbon and do a tree topper for my tree. Every year there's nothing on it at the top and now I think these photos show me the way. Thanks. By the way I've only started following some design blogs as I'm an outdoor photographer and have a blog online. I love your blog. Carol

  14. I live in Norway, and we put up and decorate the christmas tree only a few (1-2)days before christmas eve. I guess this is just a cultural difference. Much of the reason is that we use real trees and they don't last very long before they start to let go of their "needles". But we do start to slowly decorate our homes inside and out this week. We go on until christmas, and throw everything out just after New Years eve. I do love the way you decorate your mantelpice. Stunning

  19. Cute post Michelle. But alas, yard sale season is over here due to colder weather. What's a girl to do? Hit the thrift stores of course!

  20. Wow, waht a delightful post! Your tree looks fabulous all eight feet of it!

I have a 7 1/2 foot tree that I stopped using because it is so wide and takes up so much space -- although it is my very favorite tree. Your room seems the right size for your big tree.
