I know this is not an unknown store, although I probably just learned of it maybe a couple of years ago. Since then it has been one of my favorites....
As a visual merchandiser, I am constantly on the look out for inspiration and ideas, much in the way I look for ideas to incorporate in my home and Anthropologie is a great source for me.
I've not seen another "chain store" step outside the cookie-cutter and really grab your attention. I love the mix of vintage/retro, somewhat country, with a nice modern slice on things. I love it!
Hollywood glamour anyone?
You can't go into Anthro without looking at the linens...particularly the kitchen towels. I love the detail and the fabrics are pretty amazing.

I actually don't live super close to one, I'm in Raleigh NC, snapping pictures and getting funny looks from employees and customers alike...that's ok...I'm use to funny looks.
I'm with you. This one. Just walking in the door makes me feel happy and creative. I once asked about the person who creates the amazing art throughout the store, and was told they are artists given a general theme, such as "blue" or "beach", and then they just run with it. The things they do with newspaper, straws, bubble wrap, and the like is unbelievable. And the place smells divine too.
ReplyDeleteAll the funny looks were worth it - great pics.
I love Anthro, too! As far as other inspiration, no store comes to mind. My main sources of inspiration are blogs, HGTV, the Style Network, and books/magazines. I also have a favorite antiques vendor who always has amazing displays.

I just did a post on this store recently myself on my Stick Close To Home blog! I love this store and I get a font of ideas and inspiration from it!
ReplyDeleteI was not allowed to take pictures inside the store though, I had to rely on finding pictures on the internet to use for my blog.
Great post!
All the best,
Eileen
This is so sad. I hate to admit it, but I've never been to Anthropologie. We don't have a store near me, but believe me when I say that your little excursion has convinced me to search one out.

I've been to Anthropologie once, and I forgot my wallet, otherwise, I probably would have bought the entire store!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say Nordstroms inspires me the most, it inspires me to dress better.
Michelle....first - so "sweet" of you to stop by and share the joy of my French caramels :-)
ReplyDeletesecond...fantastic post. love the visuals. i've actually done my own photo shoot at anthro and LOVE LOVE LOVE the simplicity of the way each "vignette" is set up. very drawing. i'm also a linen girl and anything kitchen/home...and it's a treat just to meander through your photos here.
have a great weekend....

I think that my biggest inspirations are when people like you show such pictures. We don't have that store nearby, it is great! I can keep a lot of these images in my brain and then when I'm at estate sales I remember and am able to do a lot with spray paint, a sander, recovering chair seats and such. Thanks for your blog!
ReplyDeleteIt's my absolute favorite store. I can just get lost in there. They are so good at merchandising. I just want to buy everything, but of course it's too expensive and I mainly "look" at everything:)
ReplyDeleteOh, Anthropologie is such a treat for the eyes! They always have the best window displays! I have a background in merchandising/visual display as well, so I always pay attention to store's windows.
