Green Lemonade

Thank you so much for all love and support about losing my hair...a lot of you know exactly what I'm going through and I feel better knowing there are a lot of people in my 'virtual corner' :)

You guys know I am not a cook, per say...but I am trying really hard to try to become clean. What does that mean? Well, I've been delving into the world of eating healthy and having a clean body...basically eating right to defeat the cancer. At the beginning of the year (before I knew the cancer had come back), I really wanted to start eating right, and now that the cancer has reared it's ugly head, I am, let's say, a little more determined to begin a healthy lifestyle. A lot of you have share various websites (thank you!) and a good friend of mine told me about Eat To and I have learned a lot reading over there. I bought an inexpensive juicer and tried out a 'green lemonade' recipe. I thought I would share this recipe just in case you haven't heard of it or want to start juicing too.

This recipe calls for the following:

Fist full of Kale (7-8 leaves)

7 Stalks of celery

2 Sweet Apples (cored)

1 Lemon (cut the ends off)

1" of Ginger Root

This was the first time I've ever used a was actually really fun! I was amazed with how much juice can be extracted from veggies! It is really loud and I was really clumsy with it at first, but the more I used it, the better I got.

This recipe yields approximately 12 oz. I read too that by drinking the juice, your body isn't spending energy trying to digest the whole foods, the energy is spent cleansing, I had never thought about that .

Of course, everyone wanted to try it, even Logan...which he did not like it and told me so. :)

For me, it was not bad. I think, like with anything, it will take some time to get use to....but I will get use to...the cleaner I get, the better it will taste. I like it ice cold and with a straw.

I am looking for other versions of juice recipes, I bought a diet book dedicated to eating right, so I'm looking towards getting a handle on my health. With every change in lifestyle, it isn't easy. Giving up things like red meat, whole food, fried foods...yikes! This is a step in the right direction!
If you can believe it (I can't), I do not have any doctor appointments this week! However, my next round of chemo starts next week. Just like they told me...about the time I start feeling better, it would be time to go back. Round two here I come!

  1. Good luck with the healthy eating--I need to eat better. Tater tots at Sonic probably aren't that healthy:) LOL

  2. The pic of you wrinkling up your nose & laughing is so cute! Put it up on your mirror to encourage you when there are tough days. Praying for lots of nourishment, strength, peace, love & FUN during the days before the next round of chemo begins! I'm praying that you will be able to be still and hear the voice of our loving, sovereign God each day, Michelle. Sending you love and hugs.((( )))

  3. I love the picture of absolutely adorable. I agree blow this one up and frame it.

  4. Michelle, we're all out here pulling for you. Sending good karma your way. You go, girl. Eat healthy, learn new habits (which I personally need to do!) And take good care of yourself. We love you.

  5. Hi Michelle: Good for you. We all need to eat better, I say as I'm chomping on jelly beans! Over the lips and through the gums lookout stomach here it comes!! Keep up the good work..Happy Monday..Judy

  6. The more you go vegetarian or vegan I think your health will improve. I have a vita mix and make green smoothies every day. I put spinach (you can't taste it) orange, banana, chia nuts, one carrot and ice and whirl away. Sometimes I add honey or agave syrup. Its pretty good. You basically taste the fruit flavor. Keep that positive attitude-it will soon be in the past.

  7. Good food, good attitude , good health. :-))

  8. Have you watched the Gerson was available on Netflix...wish my Dad had seen it before his treatment program.

  9. There is a great book of home juicer recipes called Juicing for Health, by Julie Stafford I know several cancer survivors who swear by it, mostly because it was one of the easiest ways they could get nutrition into their bodies post-chemo rounds.

  10. You are such an inspiration Michelle!! Praying for blessings during this journey..I love the photo of you laughing!!

  11. Michele,
I have a good friend that just fought cancer. She, like you, read everything she could on what to avoid and what to repair your body with. Cancer is known to feed on SUGAR; so if you can avoid it at all costs, do so. It is in EVERYTHING from fruits to bread; try to eat none! Also, God made our bodies to eat that which HE has made; this means eating raw (veggies, nuts, fruits, etc) is best. Milk is irradiated and does us no good; WATER, WATER, WATER!! Also, vitamin D is a known cancer fighter; contrary to what they say about skin cancer- get in the sun and soak up the vitamin D. If you can't do that, take natural Vitamin D in a supplemental form; you can not overdose on this vitamin. Our bodies will take what we need and eliminate the rest. No one has ever over D'd on Vitamin D and most americans are SEVERLEY deficient! I am praying for you.

  12. You are beautiful and that picture just tickles me to death! Round two doesn't stand a chance against you! Prayers for you each day along with my thoughts and hugs

  13. do you read little blue boo she just went thru what you are and has a lot of info on this

  14. Michelle, I was hunting for tablescape idea for my Bible Study luncheon and came across your blog. It was no accident. My daughter's name is Michele. I have read you are going through chemo. Heavenly Father, In the Name of Jesus I pray for Michelle and I ask Lord you be with her and her family I pray Jehovah Rapha you touch Michelle's body and heal her of this cancer, purify her body. May she feel your presence and your love Lord God touch her in a mighty way. In Jesus Name I pray Amen

  15. Michelle - you should check out a book called the Raw Food Detox Diet... the lady who wrote it is actually the creator of this Green Lemonade you made. You'll feel AMAZING after eating this way for a while. Good luck with everything!

  16. AMEN to Anonymous! Michelle, here is an Amazon link to a great juice book (inexpensive).
I got a juicer for Christmas and LOVE it. If you would email me your address, (I don't know if that kind of thing is allowed or you want to do that) I will buy and have the book sent to you.
    Praying for you.
